The trailer — every second of it from the current build.

A warm, slightly sad adventure about a repairman and a talking radio.

Aubade is a 2D action-adventure in the Zelda tradition, set on the terraced streets of a seaside city in the summer of 2089. It is being made for retro handhelds, Windows and Linux.

In development. The current build, 0.2.0, has the prologue and two of the eight chapters. It is not released yet.

A repairman, a radio and eight lost memories

Alex is a repairman who never smiles, wrench in hand. Momo is an old radio that talks. One stormy night, lightning strikes the radio and Momo's memory breaks into eight pieces. By morning Momo has forgotten Alex and calls him Mr. Wrench.

The eight memories scatter across the city as sparks of light. Gather them all and Momo remembers who Momo is.

How it plays

  • Jump into machines. Momo can hop into street lamps, vending machines and claw machines to solve puzzles, and can drive monsters that have been stunned.
  • Read the boss, then dodge. Bosses telegraph their attacks. Watch the tell, roll out of the way, then hit back.
  • Dungeons built from machines. Chapter 1 is an abandoned arcade where each room is a machine puzzle. Chapter 2 is a laundromat where one dial, wash, spin or dry, changes the whole building.
  • The world hints before it explains. Momo looks toward things worth trying, so the game shows you what to do before any text does.

From the current build

  • Lantern Steps, a colourful hillside street with a noodle shop, in Aubade.
